The release of Sylvester Stallone’s directors cut of Rocky IV will be upon us any moment now. And as we near its arrival, we were just treated to the official title of this directors cut on Instagram by Stallone himself. And the title for the directors cut of Rocky IV is: ‘Rocky VS Drago – The Ultimate Directors Cut’.
Short. Sweet. And Simple. This title doesn’t carry any fancy words like “Godfather Coda”, but it promises a new experience on one of the greatest fights in film history. Stallone has been hard at work with this directors cut since the early days of the pandemic; and it’s exciting to see it finally nearing completion.
There are some changes that Stallone will be making in this directors cut; such as no more robot. Which was a fan favorite that screamed 80’s cheese. And along with no robot, Stallone has said that this film will be much more serious without the quirks of the original. And not only that the sound design and sound mixing for the fights will be updated with the benefit of modern technology that films in the 80s simply didn’t have. Stallone has also described this version of the film as “soulful”. And while I do love the original, I am extremely excited to see a Rocky IV in the vain of the first three. And with the benefit of hindsight, I have no doubt that it won’t disappoint!
And to capture this entire process will be a behind the scenes documentary that will most likely be releasing along with the directors cut.
There is no official date for when it will release, but it will be soon. And when it does, I have no question it’ll join he greats of iconic directors cuts, such as Blade Runner, Lord of the Rings, and Zack Snyder’s Justice League!
