Netflix and Skydance are collaborating with Japans Production I.G. to produce a new animated series set in the Terminator franchise!

Netflix and Skydance have been sitting on the rights of James Cameron’s franchise for quite some time and they’re finally ready to do something with it.

The screenwriter of ‘The Batman’, the upcoming Matt Reeves directed film, is set to be the showrunner and the producer of this series. Mattson Tomlin is most recently known for the film, ‘Project Power’, starring Jamie Foxx. And his upcoming projects include and sci-fi thriller titled, ‘Mother/Android’, and a sci-fi romance titled, ‘Little Fish’.

When speaking with the Hollywood reporter, Mattson Tomlin said,

““Anyone who knows my writing knows I believe in taking big swings and going for the heart,[…] I’m honored that Netflix and Skydance have given me the opportunity to approach Terminator in a way that breaks conventions, subverts expectations and has real guts.”

The most recent installment in the Terminator franchise was ‘Terminator Dark Fate’ which opened up to lukewarm reviews and flopped at the box office with a budget of approximately $196 million it only returned $261.1 million.

It is unclear whether this is a reboot or whether it will tie into the film canonically. And cast and crew besides Tomlin have also not been revealed to be attached as of yet. Also there is also no immediate release date, so there’s no telling how soo this project will see the light of day.
