Here is some bat-tastic news.
It has been announced that a TV series set in the same universe as Matt Reeves ‘The Batman’ is being developed for HBO Max.
With Matt Reeves Batman hitting screens next year, the spin-off series will be set inside Gotham City Police Department and will help launch the new Batman universe across multiple platforms.
THR reports Terence Winter, creator of Boardwalk Empire will write and executive produce the new series which has already got a series commitment from HBO Max. Reeves will produce alongside his Batman producer Dylan Clark.
It’s not know if Robert Pattinson’s Batman or Jeffery Wright Commissioner James Gordon will show up in the series.
Reeves released a statement about the exciting announcement:
“This is an amazing opportunity, not only to expand the vision of the world I am creating in the film, but to explore it in the kind of depth and detail that only a longform format can afford — and getting to work with the incredibly talented Terence Winter, who has written so insightfully and powerfully about worlds of crime and corruption, is an absolute dream.”
Sarah Aubrey, head of original content, HBO Max and Kevin Reilly, chief content officer, HBO Max, president TNT, TBS, and TruTV also released statements:
“We are so fortunate to have such great partners in Matt, Dylan, and Terry and unprecedented access to a wealth of IP from our partners at Warner Bros. and DC,” said Sarah
“Our collaboration with Warner Bros. and DC allows us to elaborate and grow fan connections across these powerful brands for years to come. This is Batman as most audiences have never seen before and we know fans will want to spend more time in this new world inspired by the film,” added Kevin.
This series will be the second to focus on Gotham’s police department, with Fox’s Gotham which ran five seasons following the career of Jim Gordon before the rise of Batman.
The sound of this hits all the right notes for me. Boardwalk Empire is one of the greatest shows to grace the TV, so I’m excited to see what’s up Terence and Matt’s sleeves. The biggest thing is this series will operate in the same universe as Robert Pattinson’s Batman, giving it more freedom and the ability to flesh the characters out more.
