Michael B. Jordan Confirmed To Direct ‘Creed III’

Back in December, Tessa Thompson let slip that her Creed co-star Michael B. Jordan would direct the third film in the franchise.

He is directing the next Creed” Thompson told MTV’s Josh Horowitz in an interview.

Now, it’s officially been confirmed by the MGM that Jordan is making his directorial debut with Creed III and also star in the titular role.

Both Tessa Thompson and Phylicia Rashad are expected to reprise their roles, but there’s no word if Sylvester Stallone will return as Rocky for Creed’s third round.

The next installment is being written by Keenan Coogler (Space Jam: A New Legacy) and Zach Baylin (King Richard) from an outline by original Creed director Ryan Coogler.

Jordan released a statement:

“Directing has always been an aspiration, but the timing had to be right. Creed III is that moment — a time in my life where I’ve grown more sure of who I am, holding agency in my own story, maturing personally, growing professionally, and learning from the Greats like Ryan Coogler, most recently Denzel Washington, and other top tier directors I respect. All of which sets the table for this moment. This franchise and in particular the themes of Creed III are deeply personal to me. I look forward to sharing the next chapter of Adonis Creed’s story with the awesome responsibility of being its director and namesake.”

Having loved the first two films in this series, I’m more than happy to see a third outing. With Jordan pulling double duties it will be exciting to see what magic he can come up on his directorial debut.

Creed III will be released November 23, 2022.
