John Cena In Talks To Join ‘The Suicide Squad’; Idris Elba No Longer Playing Deadshot, Will Play A New Character

Wrester turned actor John Cena, who starred in last years Bumblebee and Blockers could be set to join The Suicide Squad sequel.

According to Variety, Cena is in talks to join the cast of James Gunn’s Suicide Squad sequel which sees Margot Robbie and Jai Courtney return as Harley Quinn and Captain Boomerang.

It’s currently unknown which character Cena will play, but there’s been speculation that he’s up for the role of Peacemaker, a new character who is rumoured to join the squad.

Peacemaker — Christopher Smith is the Peacemaker, a motorcycle driving, gun-toting vigilante bent on bringing peace to the world.

Cena has been focusing more on his acting over the last few years, stepping away from the ring. He’s started to grown on me, especially with his more comedic roles. I think it will be good to see what Gunn can do with him and the others.

Idris Elba, another newcomer to the franchise was initially reported to be taking over the reigns of Deadshot, played by Will Smith in the original. The studio have changed their mind and decided Elba will play a brand-new character. I suspect this will leave the door open for Smith to return down the line.

The Suicide Squad is expected to go into production this fall. With it set to hit screens August 6, 2021.
