Jaume Collet-Serra To Direct ‘Black Adam’ Starring Dwayne Johnson

Fan Art of The Rock as Black Adam by Renzo G. Mejía Montes

Its been almost five years since Dwayne ‘The Rock‘ Johnson announced to the world that he would play Black Adam.

“Kneel at his feet or get crushed by his boot” My honor to become #BlackAdam #TheAntiHero #DCComics.

Now, after all this time, the long-awaited project has found its director in Jaume Collet-Serra reports Observer. Both Collet-Serra and Johnson worked together on Disney’s Jungle Cruise, which recently wrapped filming.

Black Adam is a priority for the studio notes Variety. After the success of Shazam and the hype Johnson brings to every franchise he’s in, Warner Bros. and New Line are keen to get the ball rolling.

Johnson, as Johnson does, took to Facebook to confirm Collet-Serra’s appointment:

“Cool news announcing Spanish thriller filmmaker, Jaume Collet-Serra as my director for DC’s BLACK ADAM.

Jaume and I have worked together for the last two years making, DISNEY’S JUNGLE CRUISE – and I’ve been very impressed with his passion, work ethic, style, vision, tone and quality.

He’s hungry to break new ground with BLACK ADAM and give the fans something very cool and special.

I raise a double tequila ? welcoming Jaume and can’t wait to bring to life the world’s anti-hero in black.

Black Adam producer Hiram Garcia also welcomed Collet-Serra:

“I get questions about our #BlackAdam movie daily. Just wait till you see what we’ve been developing! Thrilled to have #JaumeColletSerra”

Black Adam centers on Shazam’s arch-nemesis. Originally he started out as a straightforward bad guy, but over the years his origins have been changed, to make him more of an anti-hero.

Collet-Serra was once in talks to direct the Suicide Squad sequel, so Warner Bros. obviously like what they see with him. He’s made two decent action-thrillers in Non-Stop and The Commuter, along with as well as an excellent horror-thriller in Orphan, that little girl still creeps me out. I’ve heard The Shallows is good too, but I’ve never had the urge to watch it.

There is no release date for Black Adam yet. Johnson has previously stated he hopes cameras would begin rolling on the project in 2019, so hopefully that goes to plan.
