DC Entertainment president and chief creative officer Geoff Johns is stepping down from his executive post.
Jim Lee, who is currently DC Entertainment Publisher will take over as the chief creative officer, whilst still continuing to publish with Dan DiDio. Both of whom have shared the role since 2010.
THR reports Johns will now enter into an exclusive writer-producer deal with Warner Bros. and DC, launching his new banner Mad Ghost Productions. He will work on films, television and comic books, whilst still having input in current DC Comic book properties.
Warner Bros. have seen a lot of changes behind the scenes this year. After Justice League didn’t do the box office numbers the studio wanted, the company reshuffled there DC Films department, bringing in Walter Hamada as president of DC Films production back in January, replacing both Jon Berg and Johns as the heads of DC Films.
Johns released a statement:
“I took on a role at DCE because I love the characters and this universe more than anything. But, I want to spend my days writing and on set. I’m thrilled to get back to a more hands-on creative role. It’s a dream job on dream projects, reaching even deeper into DC’s vast pantheon of characters,”
Now that Johns has been set free from his other duties, he will turn his attention to penning the screenplay for Green Lantern Corps film.
President and chief content officer at Warner Bros. Toby Emmerich has this to say
“Geoff is a super talented writer and truly embedded in the DC Universe and its characters. We’re thrilled that he’s returning to his passion and his roots as a writer and producer. And, it’s even better that he’s staying in our Warner Bros. family. We look forward to working with him on ‘Green Lantern’ and other projects going forward.”
