With the release of Justice League last month, two characters were unanimously singled out for praise. One Erza Miller’s Flash and Jason Momoa bad ass interpretation of Aquaman, and if you though he looked bad ass in Justice League, feast your eyes on this new image release by Entertainment Weekly.
The magazine sat down with Momoa and the very talented director James Wan of the Conjuring movies and the and arguably one of the best Fast and Furious movies of the franchise.
During the interview Wan gave a few details of what to expect from the upcoming movie:
“It’s going to look very different, it will feel very different — aesthetically, tonally, story-wise — it’s my own take, it’s a much more a traditional action-adventure quest movie.”
Momoa also chimed in about the journey of the half Atlantean half human becoming King, in addition he also shed some light on the very secretly guarded movie plot and discussed how this interpretation of the King of the Seven Seas differs from the one we saw in Justice League.
“This is a totally different beast. In Aquaman, you see when his parents met and what happened to them. Then the little boy being raised and finding his powers and going through that and never being accepted on either side. And then becoming this man who puts up all these walls. You just slowly see this man harden up and be completely reluctant wanting to be king and not knowing what to do with these powers he has. I think James Wan just killed it.”
During the interview Wan also revealed that he was offered the chance to direct The Flash movie as well, but he felt that making the king of Atlantis more relevant and no longer the butt of the jokes in the DC world more challenging.
“Aquaman has been the joke of the comic book world, but the more I thought about it, the more I thought how cool that would be. Let’s take the character everybody makes fun of and do something really interesting with him.”
