BREAKING: Tom Holkenborg Will Compose ‘Godzilla Vs Kong’ Score

Drums, Please

It was announced yesterday by Film Music Reporter that Tom Holkenborg (Batman v Superman, Mad Max: Fury Road)  will compose an original score for Godzilla vs. Kong. As a fan of Bear McCreary’s work on Godzilla: King Of The Monsters, it’ll be interesting to see if Holkenborg continues some established themes or if he’ll create entirely new ones. One aspect of McCreary’s score that I would say was lacking was the use of Drums. As a drummer, I’m inclined to recognize when composers use them or not. Holkenborg is the type of composer that HEAVILY uses drums in his composition.

If GvK does actually release this year, it’ll be the beginning of a nice run for Holkenborg, all things considered, this year. He’s set to score Zack Snyder’s Army Of The Dead as well as finalize his original Justice League score (record with an orchestra). Whether he uses some familiar themes or creates his own, I’m extremely excited to hear what he comes up with for the film. What do you think of the news? Let us know in the comments below.

Godzilla Vs Kong is set to release in theaters on November 19th, 2020.
