A few weeks ago, Omega Underground (presented by GWW) ran a story on a casting rumour. That rumour was that Benicio del Toro (Sicario) was being eyed as the lead villain in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad.
According to their sources, del Toro was being eyed to play a villain who went under the codename “The Mayor,” described as an irascible old warrior who lives for war.
Now Forbes Mark Hughes has corroborated on their original report, he has also heard that del Toro is in talks for the role. With his character being referred to as The General (aka The Mayor).
Obviously this isn’t a done deal, treat this as a rumour as you know how these things some times pan out. It would be interesting to see del Toro in another comic book role, one that would perhaps challenge him more than his role as The Collector in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The Suicide Squad is expected to go into production this fall. With it set to hit screens August 6, 2021.
