Today at the CW Upfronts presentation, Arrow’s very own Stephen Amell revealed that Batwoman will be introduced during this year’s upcoming Arrowverse crossover.
Amell teased, “We’re incredibly excited to announce that we’ll be doing another crossover event this fall on the CW, and we’ll be introducing a new character,” Amell said. “For the very first time appearing, we’ll be fighting alongside Batwoman, which is terrific. The crossover is going to make it to air in December. I need to leave right now and start filming.”
Katherine Kane originally appeared as Batwoman in Detective Comics in 1956, but Kate Kane has been under the cowl since 2006. DC Comic’s New 52 relaunch highly popularized the character, with many fans appreciating the character development of both a Jewish and lesbian superhero.
Batwoman’s live action debut isn’t the only thing fans have to look forward to though, because she’s bringing the city of Gotham with her. Up until this point Gotham has only been passively referenced in the Arrowverse, with Bruce Wayne even being name dropped earlier this season on Arrow.
“We are adding the city of Gotham into the Arrowverse,” CW boss Mark Pedowitz added. “This will be another full-throttled, action-packed event.”

The above image was in the background as Amell made the announcement. Early speculation has eyed the heroes standing among at the forefront of a burning Gotham city, suggesting a large portion of the crossover may take place in the city. The Batsignal is also present, with Batwoman’s logo instead of Batman. It is unknown at this time if she will be the only active vigilante in Gotham.
