A True ‘Cloverfield’ Sequel In The Works At Paramount

Cloverfield has spawned two spin-offs, now we’re finally getting a true sequel to the original.

Cloverfield was followed by 10 Cloverfield Lane and The Cloverfield Paradox, but neither were an out-and-out sequel, both expanded the Cloververse.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, a true sequel is in the works from J.J Abrams Bad Robot and Paramount Pictures.

Up and coming British scribe Joe Barton will pen the sequels script. However, unlike the original it won’t be in the found footage format. Barton was recently announced as the new showrunner for HBO Max’s Gotham City Police series.

J.J. Abrams, who produced the first film along with writer Drew Goddard and director Matt Reeves, will be back to produce, but neither Goddard or Reeves have any further involvement.

This announcement came out of the blue, just like everything Cloverfield related, I remember seeing the first trailer in 2008 and it has me excited, I feel the same way now as the sequel may finally answer what happened to New York after the monsters ran riot through the city.
